The Town of New Hartford wishes to participate in the Climate Smart Community (CSC) Certification Program, which is designed around ten (10) pledge elements, including a variety of actions that can reduce greenhouse emissions, build a green economy and enhance local resilience. In order to participate in the CSC Certification Program, a community Climate Smart Community Task Force focused on climate mitigation and adaptation must be identified and consist of members from the local government and the community. Therefore, the New Hartford Town Board hereby creates the Town of New Hartford Climate Communities task force, whose charge will be:
- Evaluating and identifying attainable action items required for certification
- Interfacing with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC)
- Participating and facilitating the completion of the certification process through submitting required documentation and material
- To review and advise the Town Board on policies, programs, and issued promoting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability in the Town of New Hartford.
Committee, with the review and approval of the Town Board, can provide technical assistance, education and outreach to the general public and local businesses of innovative programs to promote environmental and economic sustainability through energy conservation, pollution prevention, transportation efficiency and other innovative means. The Town Board will appoint ten (10) members which includes Town staff and community members to serve on the Climate Smart Community Task Force for a term of two (2) years.
