Establish a Police Commission...

OR NOT!

At the March 14, 2012, a hot topic of discussion was once again whether or not to bring back the New Hartford Police Commission that was disbanded in 2010.

We already blogged about the fact that the composition of the previous police commission was not legal because five (5) members were appointed; NYS Town Law limits a police commission to one (1) or three (3) members. More than three (3) members requires a local law.

Here is the video of the discussion at the March 14, 2012 town board meeting...

Wow, how pathatic! Miscione doesn't have a clue. Evidently, he doesn't understand that he represents taxpayers, not his personal interest. In his mind, he's been elected to cut the taxpayer out of the governing process, in particular those who might be interested in serving the town on a board or commission.
Rather than opening the process to interested and qualified individuals, he wants to hand pick appointees - the good ole boys, backroom days. This young man has a of maturing to do. So much for open government.

David Reynolds could use the same lessons Paul Miscione needs. As usual Richard Foodland contributes nothing.

You wound Backman up though.

What I see after watching that film is the new guy has a big clue. He is trying to get some new people in the town that are actually going to work with him that have not been involved with the town before, because it looks like the rest of the board wants to exclude him from a lot of wants going on. Don picked Spellman for his second term and then said it was wrong. Which is it Don? And Pat to be the only one on the police committee that’s wrong, one board member should not be running the police department looks like that’s why the new guy wants a police commission. Looks like miscione made a point If Dave wants three friends then he needs 2 people to counter act that or else he will be closed out again. Miscione has a big fight on his hands this term because it is hard to change old ways.

Great video. It's about time we got some energy on that board. Don has finally awaken from hibernation (Good job Miscione) Now lets use that energy for some good things that will benefit the residents of New Hartford. At least now we know Miscione will not get scared and crawl under a rock when problems come about.
