Police Commission abolished...

As reported in today's Observer Dispatch article, last night the New Hartford Town Board voted 3-2 to eliminate the police commission.

We commend Supervisor Tyksinski, Councilwoman Krupa and Councilman Backman for making what was probably a difficult, but necessary decision.

The videotape of the meeting is now online!

Accolades go out to the Supervisor, Town Attorney and Board members for what seems to be a step in the right direction in reducing our out of control public safety budget. Now on to finding a new Chief that is willing to change the focus of our police department from Philo and the police commission's "skies the limit" philosophy of you can never be too safe. For far too many years through scare tactics, alliances and previous weak Town Boards our public safety compliment has become an overgrown gorilla when all we needed was a chimpanzee.

And shame on Woodland and Reynolds for still not getting it after last years unacceptable tax increase. Just goes to show ...

Has anyone revoked Dave Corr's free drunk driving pass? It seems he's quick to suggest a greater need for law enforcement but yet he feels entitled to disregard traffic laws on a regular basis as he frequents many local establishments. This behavior is well known and is inexcusable. Chief Philo may have allowed it, but it's just plain wrong! Mr. Corr should think twice before he speaks and acts in a contradictory manner. I'm sorry his son passed away, but he's not above the law and exempt from public scrutiny.

If that is true, then that better end now. Nothing gives him the right to drink and drive, wasn't his son tough on drunk drivers ? I don't think he would approve of his father's actions. Can anyone tell me why he feels the need to rally for the police dept. or why the PBA has to bring up Joe's name when they want more money ?

We don't know if it is true or not, but it would appear that Joe's name is brought up to get public sympathy.

However, it is time to let Officer Corr rest in peace.

where can I get a copy of the town law stating that when a police commission is in place the town board has no authority over the PD ? I would like a copy of that. Thanks and keep up the GREAT work, it's people like you who dedicate so much of your time and eventually make a difference.
