The New Hartford Police Department is the benefactor of the donation of a police motorcycle.

Doctor Michael Kowalski and his wife, Doctor Margaret Kowalski donated the motorcycle. The motorcycle is a 2008 Harley Davidson FLHTP Police Special. It is equipped with a 103 cubic inch V-Twin motor, six-speed transmission, anti-lock brakes, air ride suspension and seat, emergency lighting, siren and other features specific to police motorcycles. The donation of the motorcycle includes uniforms, accessories, and training costs. The only cost to taxpayers is to insure it.

The newly established Motorcycle Unit will be used during special events and for special needs.

The responsibilities of the Motorcycle Unit may be expanded in 2009 when the New York State Department Of Motor Vehicles launches a statewide Motorcycle Initiative Program to educate motorcycle riders of education and training programs as well as the use of proper equipment and laws specific to motorcycle operation. Those plans are incomplete at this time.

Are we reading this right? "...may be expanded in educate motorcycle riders of education and training programs." Huh? they are going to expand the Motorcycle Unit to educate motorcycle riders so they know where to get education and training programs?

"The only cost to taxpayers is to insure it." Does anyone else hear cha-ching...cha-ching?

It's time to expose the shroud of self-serving secrecy that plagues our beloved community. A generous gift indeed, however one which should not have been accepted without the approval and consent of the tax payers first. The future state programs are nothing more than a convenient way to justify the acceptance of this motorcycle well after the fact. But wait a minute -we the tax payers have no say, our voice is of no concern, our opinions really
don't matter. Instead we are kept in the dark and treated like mushrooms. I have to admit, this sort of sneaky behavior always ruins what could have been a good thing. All we ask from our elected and appointed officials is that they don't play us for fools. Is that too much to ask? Apparently so. Where is the honesty? Where is the integrity? Leadership starts at the top. Obviously, it's missing! Let's get the word out and end the organized corruption that exists within are own backyards.

Concerned Citizens agrees; however, taxpayers do have a say. Remember 2003 at Tony's in Washington Mills. It will take the same response for anything to change in New Hartford. But alas, the taxpayers are silent and the perception by the town board is that they can do anything they want because no one cares.

If you think that it is not true that the town board thinks they can do anything they want, wait until later today when we post our next blog! Do you live in an area that wants water or do you live in the newly formed Higby Road Water District? You don't want to miss this one...

OK the lease is coming up this May, what is going to happen to this waste of money ?? I will tell you, the good Doc will have it in his garage because that was the game plan all along. You see the Doc wanted this police package, but it can only be sold new to a police Dept.. So ray ray let him "donate" it to the town for 2 years and now it will go back to the good Doc. How convenient, not to mention secretive. Now we had to pay for the insurance for two years so the Doc could get his Harley. How much did that cost ?? What will become of all the gear that was purchased for bob philo ? Does he get to keep it with his retirement package ? Will Timmy give it to the the ever so generous Doc ?? HMMMMM Time will tell.
