Politics in the Town of New Hartford, N.Y.

Guess we shouldn't be surprised..politics are pretty much the same everywhere, but that doesn't make it right!

By now, if you live in the Second Ward, you are probably aware that Councilman J.C. Waszkiewicz is not running for a third term. According to an Observer Dispatch article on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, the Republican Committee will be screening candidates on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. However, don't be too quick to run to the phone to call Jerry Green, Republican Party Chair (aka the current Town of New Hartford attorney) to express your wishes to be considered for the Republican endorsed candidate.

Seems like they already may have their candidate (this is a .wmv file and you will need Windows Media Player to view) and it's only March 10th--they aren't even screening candidates until March 13th! It's not because they are supporting the incumbent, because we all know he isn't running. Republicans in New Hartford can rest easy tonight knowing that the next Ward 2 Councilman is already, shall we say "hand-picked". Argh!!! Maybe if you are planning on running for the Fourth Ward councilman, town judge, tax receiver or one of the three county legislator seats you will have better luck.

New Hartford is a Republican town, but perhaps it is time for the Democratic Party to start looking for a few good candidates. For the record, I am a Republican, but at the moment I am not particularly proud of that.

And by the way, don't miss our next installment of "What was missing from the March 1,2007 OD article". We guarantee that you will see the "real" information here first--and you probably will never see it in the Observer Dispatch!

It is a sad, sad, sad, day in the Town of New Hartford. Here we have the Republican Chairman (Jerry Green,Esq.) who too, is the Town Attorney telling a prospective candidate "do not bother...we already have our 'candidate').

Perhaps, it is high time the residents of the Town of New Hartford demand resignations from ALL Republican officials who are complicit in what appears to be questionable acts and violates one's due process rights.

There can be no doubt that since Earle Reed's "rise" to the position of Town Supervisor; the town residents have been denied necessary two-way communications in town financial matters. Why not add one more of their political flunkies to this Group!

I too, am a Republican, however, will vote for anyone but their candidate this fall.

Jerry Green who practices as an attorney too, should be ashamed of himself and the way he conducts politics on behalf of the Republicans. I can assure Mr. Green...not all Republicans share his point(s)-of-view.

It would be interesting to see how many, if any, election law guidance memoranda may have been violated when denying a town resident from competing fairly amongst his peers.

There can be no doubt the message Mr. Green was sending this resident who had an interest, however, I am sure upon hearing Mr. Green's comments became disgusted with the process, if there ever was one.

I am certainly glad that Jerry Green is not my legal counsel. What happened to this man's canon of ethics he acknowledged when he became a lawyer?

I would ask that the Observer Dispatch investigate what appears to be highly improper and inflammatory practices by Town Republicans party officials.

The O-D wouldn't know an investigation if it fell over one. They are part of this area's problems .
