It just occurred to me-- the town is trying to run the government just like the state does!
Also, why don't some of the folks from Concerned Citizens run for office? You all seem to know a lot about town law and government and would offer some real wisdom. Think about it!

Be sure to read the responses, they can be just as enlightening as the blog entry. And why not post your own comments to our blog?New Hartford, N.Y. Online said...
Hmm--running for office--that's a great thought. Here's the problem.
This is definitely a Republican town. The present town board appointed the head of the Republican Party as town attorney. Shortly, thereafter, the head of the Republican Party appointed two of the current councilman as committee members of the Republican Party. In order to get the support of the Republican Party to run on the Republican line you have to get the support of the Republican committee people. What are the chances that these people would get behind one of us. Unless of course, we form our own party and get the support of the majority of residents who want to see a change in the way their tax dollars are being spent.
Anyone who was not pleased with Mr. Humphreys, the former town supervisor, needs to stay tuned to this blog. Mr. Humphreys will start to look like a saint when we start to post some of the information we have obtained from many sources.March 4, 2007 11:38:00 AM EST

What became of the Democrats in the Town of New Hartford. Democrats have an opportunity to "seize-the-moment" similar to what happened on a National Level.
If the Democrats do not want to come out "fighting" for their constituents, perhaps, we need a new identity for Town residents. Richard Wood's seat is up this years and perhaps, he too, should consider being replaced by a Democrat with integrity, honesty and tenacity!
After reading about all the positive things the CITIZENS FOR HONEST & OPEN GOVERNMENT have been doing since last year, it would be an opportunity to further their platform and bring town government back to a sense of purpose, honesty and integrity.
In reading an Observer Dispatch article on County finances and their quest to bond for some $18 million dollars is yet another example of Republican leadership moving in the direction of fiscal irresponsibility.
If the National political scene can change leadership; so can the Town see new leadership - preferably NOT from the Republican party. Their platform is akin to spend, spend, spend and withhold ALL information from the taxpayers.
Perhaps, we need a mini- Boston Tea Party ala New Hartford!
Whoops! I didn't know I was blogging under "About Me," lol... was trying to tweak my own blog and forgot to change my title.
Anyway, I think there might be enough people in this area who would support another party, a "Concerned Citizens" kind of party. Look at the rapid response of citizens groups like Taxpayers Talk and Stop NYRI have garnered. Always worth a try, I guess. I know I am very open to joining a new political party-- the Dems and Repubs both stink.
Knightryder,
Obviously, you saw the article on the OD website about the County borrowing--it will probably be in tomorrow's paper. Look at the name--Joe Timpano--that would be the same person who is working with Earle Reed to hire a comptroller for the Town of New Hartford & Whitestown. The person will work out of Mr. Timpano's office at the County. New Hartford & Whitestown are supposedly sharing the cost of the comptroller 50-50. Makes you wonder if Mr. Timpano is leading the two Towns down the same road as the County likes to travel.
Mrs. Mecomber,
Glad to see you post here. I tried to email you when you took down your blog, but I was too late--you must have closed it before I sent my email. Sorry to see you take down your blog it was always interesting. Feel free to comment here!
It's not about political party affiliation , it's about competence, knowledge, honesty, and vision.
Unfortunately, in this town political party affiliation is important. If it was just the other things you listed some of the town board would have never been elected.
Wait until we show you some of the items we have in our possession and you weigh them against what the town board has been saying.
Thanks, NHNYO. FYO, I still keep another little blog, newyorktraveler.blogspot.com.
Well, I think it is high time for some change in New York. For decades, the population has been expecting the "leaders" to provide solutions... and it just will not happen. Yes, perhaps we do need another Tea Party. We certainly need another political party. After all, isn't that what the Sons of Liberty did?
